The automotive industry uses a wide range of specialty fluids, such as:

• 3M™ Novec™ 73DE is used in a mono-solvent cleaning process for precision cleaning of metals, plastics, rubbers and composite materials.

 

• 3M™ Novec™ Engineered fluids are used as a battery cooling fluid in high performance electric vehicles / motorsport.

 

• Surface modifier coatings are used to protect electronic circuit boards; flex-circuits; hybrid circuits and LED lamp arrays from corrosive and airborne contamination. Often used because of their ease of application, these coatings are also non-flammable and extremely low in toxicity. They can also be used on metals, plastics and glass to impart an easy-clean, anti-fingerprint surface to the substrate.

 

• Specialty polymers are applied to mould tools prior to extrusion of plastic and rubber parts and composites, leaving very little transfer on the moulded item.
